HARRY BROOK’S INTRIGUING “THANK GOD” COMMENT AFTER ENGLAND’S DEFEAT TO WEST INDIES

England faced a 30-run loss against West Indies in the 15th match of the T20 World Cup on Wednesday at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, falling short while chasing 197 runs. However, there was an interesting comment from their captain, Harry Brook, after the match, where he seemed more relieved by their escape against Nepal, where England emerged victorious by four runs, thanks to some unbelievable bowling by Sam Curran, who managed to defend 10 runs.

If England had lost to Nepal too, they would have been on the brink of elimination from the T20 World Cup. Brook said after the match:

"Thank God we won against Nepal the other night, otherwise we'd be in a tricky situation. But we obviously play Scotland and Italy next, and yeah, we've just got to go back, do our homework on them and go back to the basics and see how we go."

The tournament has started in a shaky manner for the 2022 champions, who faced difficulties with the ball, even against Nepal. Though they reached 184 runs, England almost blew the game before perfect yorkers by Sam Curran in the last over secured them a close win.

England’s Spin Game Strong, Says Captain Brook

England found it difficult against the West Indies spin attack of Gudakesh Motie, Roston Chase, and Akeal Hosein, who conceded 94 runs in 12 overs, picking up six wickets. Brook was bowled by Motie, who also sent back Jacob Bethell and Tom Banton. Though England’s skipper did admit he wasn’t disappointed at the way his team played against spin.

He added:

"Not disappointed, as I said a minute ago, we thought it was gonna dew up a little bit, and the spinners would slide on a little bit more. Unfortunately, that didn't happen tonight. And yeah, we'll go back and have a reflection on it and go again in a few days."

England got off to a stuttering start in the ongoing T20 World Cup. While it is true that the team involved is the current champion from the year 2022, their recent loss to the West Indies by 30 runs indicates significant problems both in batting and bowling, especially while competing against good quality spin bowlers. England was also initially saved from an embarrassing defeat by Nepal, courtesy of Sam Curran’s superb display of batting in the final over. In the midst of achievement and defeat, cricket fans witness Harry Brook’s intriguing “Thank God” after England survived the Nepal match. While improving his grip after the defeat to the West Indies, Brook seems to be appreciating his team’s capabilities to take on spin, claiming that the two defeats have not highlighted any major flaw in the team.
