Liverpool may have missed out on Kylian Mbappe this summer but he has still sent a message to Arne Slot over one of his international teammates.

Mbappe has completed his free transfer to Real Madrid after months of speculation that even included links to Liverpool. In reality, it was always going to be a difficult deal for the Reds, such were the finances required to secure his signature.

Before linking up with his new teammates at the Bernabeu, the 25-year-old will hope to lead France to victory at the European Championships this summer and add another trophy to his collection.

Mbappe is joined in the France squad by Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate and he is set to start the tournament alongside Dayot Upamecano, with Didier Deschamps resisting calls to play Arsenal ace William Saliba.

Konate found himself out of favor at the end of last season and missed Liverpool's last four matches following the Merseyside derby defeat to Everton. Ex-Anfield defender Jamie Carragher even suggested he could be sold this summer.

But he retains the backing of his international boss and Mbappe has lauded the defender ahead of the tournament. Speaking to Ouest-France, he said: "Ibou is a super player and a super guy. We are very happy to have him with us.

"On the field, he’s an absolute beast who you don’t want to cross, but outside, he’s a cream, a very cheerful and friendly guy. He’s really melted into the group very quickly.

“In fact, it’s like he has been there for 10 years, while he arrived two years ago. It is one of his greatest strengths, beyond the footballer who is constantly growing."

It remains to be seen if Arne Slot will share the same belief, with Liverpool expected to target at least one defensive reinforcement this summer following Joel Matip's exit. says: Konate has never let France down and he will be needed this summer, if his country is to go all the way. His Liverpool form certainly dipped in the second half of the campaign as he lost his place to Joel Matip. But if he can have a good summer, he may well return to Anfield rejuvenated ahead of Slot's first season in charge.
