VIDEO SHOWS HOW BRUTAL THE GREENS ARE AT PINEHURST NO. 2 TODAY

The greens at Pinehurst No. 2 might look beautiful, but make no mistake, they're unforgiving. With the first round of the U.S. Open officially underway, players are finding that out the hard way.

Two-time major champion Collin Morikawa needed a great bunker shot to have a shot at saving par on the ninth hole. His attempt looked fine at first, and yet, his ball completely sailed off the green.

Golf fans appear to be enjoying the greens at Pinehurst No. 2 this Thursday, which makes sense considering they're not the ones dealing with them.

"I think I’d shoot 125-130 with those conditions," one person commented.

Another person said, "Ah yes, an excellent example of what it's like to 'visit' the greens here at Pinehurst No. 2. So here for this. Give me all of it."

"We love seeing the carnage," a third person wrote.

Here's the bunker shot from Morikawa that went sideways fast:

We're already seeing a handful of big names struggling at the U.S. Open this Thursday, such as Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Justin Thomas and Sahith Theegala.

Brooks Koepka is currently leading the pack at 3-under par. Patrick Cantlay and a handful of others are one stroke behind him on the leaderboard.
