CONOR MCGREGOR ISSUES CRISTIANO RONALDO MESSAGE AFTER TEARFUL PORTUGAL STAR'S EURO 2024 VICTORY
Cristiano Ronaldo has received a message of support from Conor McGregor following an emotional evening for the Portugal star at Euro 2024.
Ronaldo’s side took on Slovenia in the last-16 on Monday night in a tense affair that saw the scores deadlocked at 0-0 after 90 minutes.
The Al Nassr star was then handed an opportunity to put his side ahead in extra time when Portugal were awarded a penalty, only for the 39-year-old to see his spot kick saved by Slovenia goalkeeper Jan Oblak. Visibly upset, a tearful Ronaldo had to be consoled by teammates during half-time of extra time, before composing him again for the resulting penalty shootout that followed.
Ronaldo dispatched Portugal’s first penalty in the shootout, while goalkeeper Diogo Costa saved three Slovenia spot kicks to seal his side’s progression into the quarter-finals.
McGregor, who was sat next to Ronaldo at the recent heavyweight clash between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk in Riyadh, was quick to send a message to his friend.
"True passion for country! @Cristiano you are the greatest football player to grace this earth!”, he posted on his Instagram story.
"God bless you brother! The past is glory! The present is history!"
Next up for Portugal is a quarter-final against France in Hamburg on Friday, July 5.
