CONSPIRACIES SWIRL AFTER CHRISTIAN PULISIC’S POSTGAME INTERACTION WITH REFS

On Monday night, the U.S. men's national soccer team was eliminated from the 2024 Copa America after a stunning 1-0 defeat to Uruguay at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

This loss, along with Panama's win over Bolivia, forced the USA to an early exit. What's even more disappointing for the U.S. team is that the tournament is taking place in throughout their home country.

The match changed when Uruguay scored 67 minutes into the contest off of a free kick. A Uruguay player appeared to be offside, but the referees let it slide, giving Uruguay a goal and the lead, ultimately securing them a victory.

After the game, an interaction between USMNT star Christian Pulisic and the referees went viral. Pulisic offered to shake the hands of two refs, but both declined.

After the video of Pulisic went viral, U.S. soccer fans started coming up with various conspiracy theories, with a number of them alleging that the match had been fixed.

"Nvm we were cheated bro Concacaf clearly is rigging our games so we lose thats why nobody takes soccer seriously as a sport"

"Bro was WORKIN this game smh"

"Please please keep telling me this wasn’t fixed Copa America, FIFA… you can’t make this stuff up.. guy was calling things and allowing things that aren’t even in the rules or allowed and blatantly refused a handshake"

"this is not okay. this sums up how corrupt this ref. he literally stares at pulisic, puts his hand behind him, and refuses to even be a decent human being. This ref needs to be investigated"

"To be fair to the ref, and based on the calls in the game, there’s a chance he’s blind"

"It was rigged."

"This was somehow not ruled offside after review"

The Copa America tournament is a soccer tournament involving mostly national teams from North and South America. However, national teams from Asia have also been invited to participate in the past.
