ENGLAND HIT WITH TWO EURO 2024 FINES TO COMPOUND MISERY AFTER JUDE BELLINGHAM PUNISHMENT

The FA have been hit with two fines totalling €11,000 (£9,300) following the conduct of England fans during their win over Slovakia.

The last-16 clash in Gelsenkirchen looked set to go down as one of the Three Lions more forgettable moments as they trailed until deep into stoppage time. Jude Bellingham equalised and Harry Kane was able to head home an extra-time winner.

In the aftermath of the contest, though, the FA have been charged with crowd disturbances and the lighting of fireworks. The two offences carry different fines - albeit they are minimal fees. The former will cost the governing body €10,000 whilst the latter is an additional €1,000.

Bellingham, whose overhead kick spared the nation's blushes, has also been hit with a suspended ban and £25,000 fine after making an apparent X-rated gesture. He grabbed his groin but has since explained the action was a private joke that he claims he directed towards friends.

Nevertheless he has been charged with violating the basic rules of decent conduct. Bellingham's fine has been "suspend for a total of one UEFA competition match for which he would be otherwise eligible for violating the basic rules of decent conduct. The suspension is not immediately enforced and is subject to a probationary period of one year, starting from the date of the present decision."

The Real Madrid star took to social media after footage of him began circulated to outline why he performed the gesture. He said: “An inside joke gesture towards some close friends who were at the game. Nothing but respect for how that Slovakia team played tonight.”

The charges come just 24 hours before England's last eight clash against Switzerland. The Swiss have already knocked out holders Italy and will provide the Three Lions' toughest test at the tournament thus far.

Bellingham is among those to cop criticism as England continue to underwhelm in Germany. There have even been calls for the Real man to be dropped despite his stellar reputation.

He said following the Slovakia success: "You hear people talk a lot of rubbish and it's nice that when you deliver, you can give them a little bit back. He continued: "Sometimes we feel like there's a bit of a pile-on and it's not nice to hear but you can always use it and for moments like that, it's nice to throw it back to some people."
