Roy Keane has joked that he will leave the country and 'emigrate to Australia', should England win Euro 2024.

The Irishman, who has been working as part of ITV's punditry team for the tournament in Germany, also insisted that he would give Gareth Southgate's side 'credit' if they win the tournament.

The Three Lions face the toughest test of their Euros campaign so far, as they take on Switzerland in the quarter-finals in Dusseldorf.

It comes after Southgate's side advanced to the next round of the tournament by the skin of their teeth. Jude Bellingham's stunning 95th-minute over-head kick helped England come from behind to pull off a dramatic 2-1 victory against Slovakia, with Harry Kane following up with the winner in extra-time.

Keane, who won 67 caps for Ireland, was speaking on Stick to Football: The Overlap Special, brought to you by Sky Bet, when he admitted that he might have to move to the southern hemisphere if England win their first major international trophy since clinching the World Cup in 1966.

'When we do the TV we have to praise Manchester City – if a team wins something you have to give them credit,' the former Manchester United midfielder said.

He added, in jest: 'I’d be emigrating obviously if they win it – probably Melbourne, Sydney!'

Former England stars, Gary Neville and Ian Wright, conversely stated that they would both be quite emotional if England win.

'I would get emotional [if England win Euro 2024] – I’ve never cried at a football match. I’d cry if England win the tournament,' Neville, who won 85 caps for the Three Lions and was part of England's Euro 96 squad, said.

Wright, who scored nine goals in 33 games, added that he wanted England to win the tournament for Southgate: 'You know why I’d probably cry – if it [winning Euro 2024] happens for Gareth [Southgate]. 'That would get me.

'Someone sent me a picture the other day when we were at [Crystal Palace], and you know when you do the team photo, and you’ve got the youth team – Gareth was sitting in front of me and look where he’s gone too, look where he’s reached.

'I’d love him to do that, it would just make me feel really good to see him do that.'

Jill Scott, meanwhile, told the Stick to Football: The Overlap Special, that she would get a tattoo if England win the tournament.

'I’d get another tattoo [if England win Euro 2024] – I’d just end up with all these tattoos,' the former Lionesses star said. 'I’d get the date or something if they won – it’s special!'

Questions have been raised over England's performances in Germany so far during the tournament, while Southgate has come under fire for his team selections and substitutions during games.

But Keane feels that England fans need to stick by their team and enjoy the fact they have reached the quarter-finals of the tournament.

'People should stop complaining about the performances from England because they are still in the tournament and that’s the most important thing,' the ITV pundit said.

'Imagine if you were playing well and got knocked out of the tournament, then the reaction would be worse. England have brilliant attacking players who have got the team out of jail and that’s what I thought would happen before the tournament.

'It’s been a while since the last time you thought England were playing well on a consistent basis, but that struggle is fine when you’ve got match-winning players in your side. If England get to the semi-final or final playing ugly, no one will complain about it.'
