SPAIN V GEORGIA RESULT: SPAIN OVERCOME EARLY OWN GOAL TO SHOW CLASS IN REACHING EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP QUATER-FINALS

Spain advanced to the European Championship quarter-finals with a classy showing in the second half in a 4-1 win over Georgia.

Georgia took the shock early lead after Robin Le Normand scored an own goal for Spain. But any thoughts of an upset result in the round of 16 were quickly put away when Rodri evened the scores just before halftime.

Spain then took over in the second half with three goals through Fabian Ruiz, Nico Williams and Dani Olmo.

Spain will next play hosts Germany in a blockbuster quarter-final on Saturday.

The sides met twice in qualifying for the finals, with Spain emerging victorious both times, including a 7-1 win in Georgia. Georgia advanced to the round of 16 for the first time following a stunning 2-0 win over Portugal to finish third in their group stage.

Spain topped their group. They lost in the round of 16 eight years ago to Italy.

The winner will face hosts Germany in the quarter-finals.
